It’s Friday afternoon, you are all pumped for the weekend and all the stuff you can get done in the two whole days you have free from school! You get home and spend the night chillin’ with your family, watching movies and eating the leftover food from meals through out the week because it is ‘Fend For Yourself Friday’. Then it gets to Saturday…
You slept in till 12:00. Your breakfast is lunch and you have lost half of your day of weekend productivity. You get upset that you are a teenager and wasting your life away with sleeping and so you end up in bed all day eating fairy bread endlessly doing something like watching Dan and Phil on YouTube.
Yup this is what happens to me nearly every weekend. It’s kinda sad but I have learned a few tricks to help me get up off my butt and do something other than become a internet browsing hermit.
Sometimes all it takes to get back into a productive mood is to do something quick and easy so you feel like you have successfully spent your weekend without just sitting around wasting perfectly good hours of your life. Here are some quick and fun things you can do on the weekend to get out if this funk.
If you set an alarm to an hour or two after you get up for school normally, then you will feel like you slept in but you will not become a weekend sleeping beauty. Brianna and I have been trialing this method and it definitely works! You will get up all ready for an awesome weekend without sleeping it all away.
Paint Your Nails Pretty
I like to have pretty nails for three reasons. They make me feel even more successful when I type on the computer really fast because they stand out on the keyboard, I also enjoy writing in my school books when I can see the bright colour of my nails and having nicely manicured nails helps me not to chew on them when I am stressed.
Put On Music
Stick on your favorite tunes and you will immediately feel amazingly more motivated to do almost anything. If you need to have headphones to stop your brother complaining about your choice of music then go ahead! I really love listening to my favorite Pandora station. It is a mix of Florence + The Machine, Marina & The Diamonds, Kimbra, Lorde, Lindsey Stirling and Ellie Goulding.
Go For A Walk
Sometimes all you need is a few minutes in wandering in the sunshine to make you feel better about life. Put on some headphones if you need to and take a five minute walk. I also really like to go for walks in the rain on a rainy day. Sometimes doing something fun and out of the ordinary can help you to be inspired to get some other fun things done in your weekend. You should see some of the looks people will give you when you are walking in the rain without an umbrella!
Take A Nap
Recently I have discovered the fantastic value of the ‘siesta’! I have been super tired all the time, especially straight after school. After a few days of coming home, eating an afternoon snack and then taking a twenty minute nap I have felt way more alert and less tired. This is really helpful especially if I have heaps of homework to do or blog posts to write. So if you have a few things to do on the weekend don’t sleep in and waste half your day, but get up get your stuff done then take a short nap after lunch if you need some more rest. The way I take a nap is I set a timer on my phone for 20 min then I just lie on my bed and keep my eyes closed and don’t move even when I really want to. When the twenty minutes are up, I have just drifted off to sleepy land and have had a successful rest without the horrible stay in bed feeling. Having a nap also makes me think about how I can be more productive when I wake up because I have taken the specific time to not do anything so I am not focused on the task at hand but the bigger picture.
These are just a few things I have learnt lately about being productive on the weekend. What motivates you to get stuff done?
P.S. We actually do Fend For Yourself Friday in my house. It is super fun and everyone eats something they want to reheat or cook for themselves on Friday night after a week of the parents cooking!
